Graduation 2009

Congratulations to all who received certificates on the day. Students received awards at Fetac Level 3, Level 4 and Level 5 as well as the Leaving Certicicate Applied.

Unfortunately all students couldn't attend as many have now progressed to third level and were sitting exams on the day of the Graduation.

We wish them the very best for the future.

7UP Christmas on ice.

Our trip to Liffey Valleys 7UP Christmas on Ice was a festive extravaganza.  Whether beginner or pro there was festive fun and entertainment for all.

Mark, Bridie, Ciaran, Ciava, Darren and Noel along with Kevin, Paige, Louise and George made it look so easy as they skated gracefully and professionally while some of the rest of us watched on in awe.

The Quilt.

The quilt is a collection of works from young women in Roscommon – mostly students and staff at Youthreach.

Olga with the help of Kitty, proposed to the young women in Youthreach to be part of this initiative.  They thought it was something they would like to be involved with.  There was recognition that it was not going to be produced in the way that traditional quilting is carried out, in groups.  The young women all had their own reasoning for being part of the process.  They worked in their own way, some in groups, some individually.

The theme is Stars, recognising that each woman is a star within her own right and given opportunity, she has the potential to shine.

Each piece is an element of every one participant.  The pieces reflect a unique and important citizen of this island, showing their life, skills, passion or a simple willingness to be included.  It was never about quilting perfection, tidy stitching or colour coordination, just a collection of works of art born out of opportunity and recognition that each contribution is an act of citizenship and history.

This beautiful piece of work is being displayed throughout the county.  Thanks again to Olga and Kitty who put in so much effort and gave so much of their time on this project.

Students reach new Heights!!

Leaving Cert applied students in Youthreach recently climbed Croagh Patrick to raise money for Temple Street Hospital for Sick Children.  They raised over €600 and the money collected was spent in Smiths Stores in Clairmorris on toys for the children.  The students involved were Geraldine O'Donnell, Siobhan Taylor, Rachel Kane, Natasha Conroy, Daniel Davison and Charlene Calpin.  The students enjoyed the challenge presented by the sponsored climb, the buying and wrapping of the presents and especially the presenting of the gifts to the children in the Hospital.  The students believe that any time in hospital is not pleasant but Christmas time is even worse so hopefully the gifts will lighten the burden.

Breakfast Morning!!

As part of her Social Education task, Siobhan Taylor with the help of Geraldine O'Donnell presented the sum of €135.15 to Childline.  The money was the proceeds of a breakfast morning held recently in Youthreach.  On the day Siobhan and Geraldine served a variety of cereals, smoothies, croissants and much more.  Both girls were delighted with the amount raised and would like to thank the sponsors and everyone who contributed.
